Oops...Err...Umm...Huh?

During the talk on Sunday I mentioned my concern that we have turned the corner as a culture. Not only do we now consume products, but people for our pleasure as well. It was in context to relational breakdowns.

Off the cuff (and dangerous) I said "If you have a DVD player that is 14 years old, feel free to upgrade it. If you have a 14 year old wife...don't go looking for an upgrade."

What I meant was..."a wife of fourteen years"...not "a fourteen year old wife."

Whew.

Now you see why I script my notes when I speak ;-)

Orchard Baptism

Scott posted a video of their churches recent water baptism experience. Fantastic. I never get tired of watching baptism videos. The people, faces, stories, and surrender. Great video Scott!

For all you bloggers out there, if you video your baptisms, put them online - even if you think the videos suck compared to church X. We all need to be reminded again and again why we do what we do.

Check it out here.

Me & TBG

Tbg This is me and TBG (a.k.a The Big Guy/my Dad).

At Lifecentre we are attempting (successfully) to live our faith honestly by growing people with Jesus and others. While that may not seem groundbreaking, what we are doing is not targeting a specific demographic for our mission. Rather our passion is to be multi-generational in our approach. Not because it is political, more because its purposeful.

I have conversations with twenty somethings who are dinosaurs in their understanding of faith. On the flip side, I have conversations with those in their sixties and seventies who are even more postmodern than I am.

Example, this Sunday I prayed for two singles after the service, both looking to fall in love. One was middle aged, the other, more "mature", yet both were looking for the same thing.

I loved that moment. Different generations, same desire.

Today I popped down to see my dad. We chatted about culture, marriage, same-sex, dispensations, and the church. Amazing. He has 26+ years of experience, yet is equally passionate about the next twenty-six years of church life.

Different generations, same desire.

I agree that the church needs to be missional. I love the mission.

I guess it makes me wonder why some churches would intentionally want to minister only to one demographic?

Now if I can only get TBG blogging...hmmm :-)

Brrr...

Emma_2 Yes. It is that cold up here in the Great White North.

Gid-day eh!

Marriage

Lori This is why I am passionate about marriage.

Enough said.

Leopardirific

Photo_38 Turned out my dad did the hunt by himself. I have fantastic family in town this weekend. We are having a blast with Tim, Trudy, & baby Charlotte.

Leopard is pretty sweet.

Leopard Hunting

Tomorrow at 6pm me & TBG (a.k.a my Dad) are taking the boys on their first hunting trip...to Future Shop where we will be hunting Apple's new operating system, Leopard.

Pictures of our adventure to follow tomorrow.

A Bear

Photo_35 Strep throat.

3 full drafts.
24 pages.
Whittled down to six.

Frustration.
Realization.
Aggravation.
Revelation.

A little help from my friends.
A lot of help from my wife.
A chat with TBG
Another with my mom.

Lots of ferverant prayer.
Loads of whining prayer.

Peace.

The talk for Sunday is done. Sometimes they flow in such an effortless manner. Other times not so much. What I have discovered getting ready for Sunday is that anytime you tackle marriage, living together, same-sex marriage, covenants...it is probably time for a series.

So that is what we are going to do.

Later this year we are doing a series on sex...and a series on marriage. There is way too much content to cover in both to do them justice in one talk.

One thing I can promise you is this weekend has the potential to be a bit messy, and I am OK with that because growing people with Jesus and others is, at times, messy.

The other element that came into clear focus this week is how dangerous it is to distill the depth of a truth down to a catchy cliche. While it may roll of the tongue nicely, the effects can be life shattering.

I am off to bed...soon :-)

Lick = Yuck.

Shutterstock_2275209 Why do people do this?

I was dropping off some shirts at the dry cleaners this morning. I had a great chat with the employee working the counter. She was, how shall we say, more mature in age than I am. On that note, I always love getting called "dear" and "sweeting" in conversations - by people like this lady.

Then she did something that makes me go...yuck.

She licked her fingers to separate the receipt.

Now I know paper is sometimes hard to separate, and this may seem like a quick and efficient solution to the problem, but c'mon do we have to lick our fingers, place our spit on the receipt, and then hand it to me?

The receipt that I was handed today was wet at the bottom....WET.

Thank God for Purrell!

The Sequel

Weird?

I have strep throat yet again. Now this is getting silly. This is my second case of it in six weeks.

If you could pray for me, it would be appreciated :-)
